  4. Go for a day trip to Uttarkashi – Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Ganga ghat & a walk on Ganga Bridge

Getting to The Women Village, Matholi:

After a scenic 121 km drive from Dehradun, a short 150/400-meter walk brings you to this quaint little haven, run by Bakri Chhaps’s brigade of micro entrepreneurs, owned by an ace mountaineer and erstwhile manager of The Goat Villages. From Dehradun, you have a couple of options. You can take a taxi to ChinyaliSour and then switch to another taxi to Matholi. Alternatively, there’s a bus service from Dehradun to Uttarkashi via Suwa Kholi, Moryana Top, and ChinyaliSour. If you’re coming from Rishikesh, there’s a bus service to Uttarkashi via Chamba, ChinyaliSour, and Breathi. From Breathi bus stand, hop on a taxi to Matholi.

How to Reach (from Dehradun):

From Dehradun, you have a couple of options to reach Matholi which is around 121 km away (The Women’s Village cottages being a 150/400 m trek from Matholi):

To reach Matholi Village from Dehradun, you can follow these steps:

    • By Road

  • Self-Transportation
      • First, make your way to Dehradun.
      • From Dehradun, travel to Chinyalisour, a small town in Uttarkashi district. The route is scenic and takes you through the beautiful landscapes of Uttarakhand.
      • Matholi village is only half an hour’s drive from Chinyalisour. Upon reaching the vicinity of Matholi, there’s a short walk of about 150/400 m to reach the cottages.
  • Shared taxi service (for budget travelers)
    • Upon arrival in Dehradun, you can take a shared taxi from Rispana Pull (bridge) to Uttarkashi/Chinyalisour (please note that even if one take a taxi for Uttarkashi, one needs to be dropped off at Chinyalisour, which lies around 34 kms before Uttarkashi
    • Upon reaching Chinyalisour, one needs to change for another shared taxi or personal cab to reach Matholi village which is only half an hour’s drive from Chinyalisour. 
    • Upon reaching the vicinity of Matholi, there’s a short walk of about 150/400 m to reach the cottages.
  • By Bus

    • Upon arrival at Dehradun, one can opt for bus services that are available:
      1. Vishwanath Seva Buses:
  • These buses are comfortable and ply directly from Dehradun to Uttarkashi without stopping anywhere en route like other buses. 
  • They start from the Parade Ground in Dehradun early in the morning till 1:00 PM.

 (Note: Chinyalisour is en-route Uttarkashi, so one has to get off the bus at Chinyalisour)

  • Upon reaching Chinyalisour, follow the directions mentioned above to reach Matholi village.
  • Upon reaching the vicinity of Matholi, there’s a short walk of about 150/400 m to reach the cottages.
  • From Dehradun Airport (Jolly Grant Airport) to Matholi Village:

  1. Upon arrival at Dehradun Airport, you can hire a personal cab directly to Matholi Village.The distance is approximately 121 km and the journey may take around 3-4 hours.
  2. In case you are travelling on a low budget, one can take a taxi to reach Dehradun city (approx. 27.5 km away), from where public transport options like bus and shared taxis are available as mentioned above.
  • From Dehradun Railway Station:

  1. Upon arrival at the railway station in Dehradun, you can hire a taxi or a car for the journey to Matholi, which is about 121 km away and takes roughly 4 hours
  2. In case, you are travelling on a low budget, one can opt for a shared taxi from Rispana Pull, or bus services as mentioned above.
  • By Helicopter:

Our most popular themed village “The Women’s Village- Matholi” has the adventurous Helicopter connectivity from Dehradun to Chinyalisour, twice a day. 

Hence, one can easily skip 4 hours of road travel to a 20 min luxurious helicopter ride which in itself is a surreal experience, especially if it’s your first time. So, no more excuses for yourself while planning your next rural tour to the Himalayas.

Also, it is advised to confirm about bus and shared taxi start and arrival time beforehand to avoid any inconveniences. Our property is located amidst a forest area, one can find Spiders, Chameleons (Girgit), frogs, Millipedes (Kankhajura, Mosquitos, Grasshoppers), wild Lizards, birds, dogs, and occasionally, snakes may come around to meet the guest. There is no need to panic as they are harmless unless provoked. You are requested to call our scout and a trained professional shall escort our guest from nature to their home.
