At the heart of our mission lies the pioneering spirit to disrupt rural norms through innovative events that serve as catalysts for social change. These events are not merely gatherings; they are meticulously crafted showcases of cultural and natural heritage, breathing life into traditions often forgotten or overlooked.
In the rugged landscapes of the Garhwal region of the Himalayas, where outmigration plagues communities due to a dearth of livelihood opportunities exacerbated by climate change, our initiatives have sparked transformation. Take, for instance, the whimsical yet purposeful Bakri Swayamvar—an event designed to enhance the gene pool of livestock and cattle. In the picturesque Jaunpur valley, amidst laughter and jest, bride goats adorned with names of Bollywood celebrities captivated the masses, reigniting interest in traditional husbandry practices. Beyond entertainment, this event placed the destination on the map for responsible, nature-based tourism, fostering economic sustainability.
Similarly, the Ghasiyari, a fodder-cutting competition among women in Matholi village, became a rallying cry for traditional livelihoods, empowering women and preserving age-old practices. Meanwhile, the Dugdagu, or Butter Festival, in Anjooth, breathed new life into forgotten traditions, celebrating the richness of rural heritage.
At the core of our ethos is a commitment to environmental stewardship. All our events are zero waste and low footprint, guided by the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink. By treading gently on the earth, we honor our surroundings and ensure that our impact is positive and lasting.
These are just a few examples of the myriad events we organize across different locales, each one a testament to our dedication to uplifting rural communities and preserving their invaluable cultural legacy. Through creativity, collaboration, and compassion, we continue to chart a path towards a more vibrant and sustainable future.
On International Women’s Day 2022, the Matholi village in the Chinyalisaur block of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, was the venue for a unique celebration of rural life and women empowerment – The Ghasiyari Festival.
“Bakri Swayamvar” has been recognized for its social impact. It was shortlisted as one of the top 5 social impact projects by the Indian Responsible Tourism Awards (IRTA) by Outlook Traveller in 2020.
