Raithal Village is 185 km (approx. 6-hour drive from Dehradun) and a further 400 meters trek leads you to “The Goat Village” (7000 ft.). It is en route to Dayara Bugyal, located over 10,000 feet above sea level, listed among the few largest, and one of the highest altitude meadows in the Greater Himalayas,offers a breathtaking view of the Gangotri Range including Bandarpunch, Kala Nag, Srikanth, Jaonli, and Draupadi Ka Danda.

The meadow is adorned with vibrant alpine flowers such as Himalayan blue poppies, daisies, and primroses in the summer, and is surrounded by oak and rhododendron forests. It’s a haven for bird watchers, with species like the Himalayan monal, the state bird of Uttarakhand. The sight of the sunset over the mountains is a treasured experience for visitors.

Getting to The Goat Village- Dayara Bugyal:

Raithal Village is 6-7 hours from Dehradun airport. Travel options include private cabs for $75-$90 (6000 – 7500 INR) or a multi-step journey via Rishikesh and Uttarkashi using shared taxis or buses as modes of transportation from Dehradun. Upon arrival, a 15-minute (400 m) hike leads to the farm stay.

Cottages in TGV- Dayara Bugyal are carved out by a women-led construction team using earth-friendly material such as mud, stone and farmed pine-wood. The accommodation is a mix of beautifully carved wood, stone & glass cottages and condominiums. Each cottage has a bay window overlooking forest and Greater Himalayas. The ceiling is designed in a way to tap natural sunlight and moonlight.

Dining Experience:

Raithal’s limited tourism prompts reliance on hosts for farm-to-table meals made from locally sourced ingredients, reflecting the village’s communal ethos of food production and sharing.

Unique Leisure Experiences In & Around:

  • Dayara Bugyal is listed among the few largest and well known meadows in the Garhwal Himalayas. Situated at an elevation of 3048m, the top of Dayara Bugyal can be reached after a 9 km trek beginning from The Goat Village, on a well-defined route. 
  • Numerous other hiking trails including the renowned Dayara Bugyal trek offer scenic beauty. The trek requires permits and guides, typically costing $10-$20 (800 – 1700 INR) per person.
  • Visitors can also experience the unique Butter-festival called ‘Anduri’ that happens somewhere around the months of August/September each year
  • Explore nearby attractions like Gangnani hot water sulphur springs and Harshil village.

How to Reach:

Here are various transportation modes that you can choose from, for your journey from Dehradun to Raithal Village (The Goat Village being a 400 m trek from Raithal Village):

    • By Road:
  • Self Transportation:
      • First, make your way to Dehradun.
      • From Dehradun, travel to Uttarkashi via NH34. The road journey from Dehradun to Uttarkashi is quite scenic, passing through lush coniferous forests and along the Bhagirathi River.
  • Shared Taxi Service:
  • From Dehradun, you can take a shared taxi from Rispana Pull (bridge) to Uttarkashi
    • From Uttarkashi, hire a local taxi to Raithal Village. The distance is around 43 km and should take approximately 1.5-2 hours
  • By Bus:
    • Upon arrival at Dehradun, one can opt for bus services that are available:
      1. Vishwanath Seva Buses:
  • These buses are comfortable and ply directly from Dehradun to Uttarkashi without stopping anywhere en route like other buses.
  • They start from the Parade Ground in Dehradun early in the morning till 1:00 PM.
  • Other bus options that one can look for include DevBhoomi Travels that operates buses on this route with different departure times. 
  • Upon reaching Uttarkashi, you can hire a local taxi or take a bus to Raithal which is approximately 43 kilometers away from Uttarkashi. Shared cabs are available from Uttarkashi to Raithal.
  • From Dehradun Airport (Jolly Grant Airport) to Raithal Village:
  1. Upon arrival at Dehradun Airport, you can hire a personal cab directly to Raithal Village. The distance is approximately 185 km and the journey may take around 6-7 hours.
  2. In case you are travelling on a low budget, one can take a taxi to reach Dehradun city (approx. 27.5 km away), from where public transport  options like bus and shared taxis are available as mentioned above.
  • From Dehradun Railway Station to Raithal Village:
    1. Upon arrival at the railway station in Dehradun, you can hire a taxi or a car for the journey to Raithal village, which is about 185 km away and takes  6-7 hours
    2. In case you are travelling on a low budget, one can always opt for a shared taxi from Rispana Pull, or bus services as mentioned above.

Note: The times mentioned are approximate and can vary based on local traffic conditions and stops along the way. It’s advisable to book your transport in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. Safe travels!
